a few of my favorite things
There are many things I remember about my sweet Grandma Carrie: she always had vanilla ice cream in the freezer; she wore a velvety red shower cap sorta thing to keep her bouffant nice and neat while she snoozed; she sang while doing the dishes; AND she had the greatest LE Fenton canisters in her kitchen. She purchased them in the forties and used them for over 50 years. She passed away when I was 19 and since then I have had a plan of eventually having canisters just like hers. That day has come thanks to a little late night Ebaying. Now maybe I should do a search for a red velvet sleeping cap. Never mind I said that.
Check out this tree fabric I picked up the other day. I can't seem to decide if it's vintage (my guess is no) but it sure is snazzy.
While watching the latest Six Feet Under dvd last night, I managed to cut out a tree full of baby owls, as well as a skirt, and several zipper pouches. I told you I felt the urge to sew coming back in a big way. Hopefully I can get to it.
Here are a few links for your perusal. I wonder what Mortimer would do if I had this shipped on over? You've probably already heard about this great site, but I can barely hold myself back even though I'm well aware my notecard addiction is starting to become an issue.
If you haven't yet seen The Realms of the Unreal. I think you would enjoy it. I saw it several months ago and can't seem to get it out of my head. That Henry Darger was something pretty amazing.
I think a little blogging break is due. I'll be back after the weekend. Take care.

I love that fabric! it rocks.

Have you read this book? http://www.rizzoliusa.com/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=9780847822843
It's a pretty comprehensive book about Henry Darger with beautiful fold outs, uber pretty...The Realms of the Unreal is stellar, I try to get everyone I know to see it :)
Have a lovely weekend :)

Those cards are so cute! I've been meaning to make some cards to have on-hand and this may be just the inspiration I needed.

I loved "In the Realms..." and Henry Darger's apartment was right around the corner from where my husband's parents used to live. It is definitely haunting, isn't it?

I love Henry Darger, that movie was just on my netflix queue. I actually missed one of his shows at the American Folk museum and I super regret not going to see it. At the exhibition they apparently had his huge manuscripts out for viewing, I would have loved to sit and down had conversation with him, maybe pick his brain a little about his work

I love everything I see here of course. But that tree fabric reminds me of flying in my dad's airplane as a kid (we did that alot). It's getting me a little airsick but I love it!!
