owl factory
Remember when I mentioned that owls are starting to take over around here? Well, here's proof.
Although, I only have five more owl pillows to go and then they're out the door.
I think everyone I share my apartment with (cats included) will be relieved when this order ships. I know I will.
I received an email that some type of owl craft was shown on Martha Stewart today. Did anyone else see this? If so, I would love to hear more info about it.
One last thing before I get back to work. Are you privy to all the de-lurking going on? I think its a great idea and I'm getting on board with it. Here's the thing, I would LOVE to hear from some of you out there in blogland. Introduce yourself, it'll be fun.
To get the ball rolling, I'll de-lurk a bit too.
Here are some random bits you may or may not know about me.
I make things almost everyday and want to continue that routine as long as possible, like forever.
My day is partly filled with a job that is sweet and challenging. I learn a lot from the people I work with. I come home practically everyday with a good story. I like salty over sweet and stripes over dots.I eat a bit of dark chocolate after almost every dinner. People tell me I have a raspy voice and sometimes say I have a little twang, especially if I've had a few drinks. I like making lists. I makes lists all the time. Currently, I can't find my earphones for my iPod. I have a list saying look for earphones.
Okay, now your turn...

Hi.
I am taking part in the "de-lurking" as well. (I posted a little intro on my own blog.)
I have been reading your blog for about six months. In November, I ordered an obi from you because my daughter is SO into anything Japanese. She really loves it. (It was the brown and white one that has a sort of weed pattern, for lack of a better description.)
Anyhow, just re-introducing myself. Have a lovely week!

I recently stumbled across your blog via flickr.
I am loving what I am finding here. I too am looking for my i-pod earphones:) Why did we disconnect them?!

I came here through flickr. Thanks for sharing the info with us! I live in Seattle, and have a blog. I think maybe I'll post something like this on my blog to describe myself in more detail.
I saw the Martha thing today. She had a woman on from Pretty Little Things, and she makes owls that look VERY similar to yours. I forgot her name, but you could probably google the name of her business for more info.

i've delurked a little on my blog...

oddly enough, today i caught the last bit of martha...and thought of you! the work looked to be yours, but like i said...i missed everything about the show and only saw when they took a shot of the table....i thought "good for leya" heheh....you'll have to see if there is anything on the webpage.

I have no idea how I got here, probably while I was trying to avoid work and clicking on links from Crafty Blogs ;)
I too adore owls. I have one staring at me right now. Target has the cutest little garden tools for kids in owl shapes (I almost bought a watering can in the shape of an owl) that I might have to get.

I've been lurking for maybe six or more months. And what's funny is now everytime I see an owl I think of you. I like sweet over salty but I like my sweets baked. No candy or chocolate. Unless it's baked in something. Oh, and if I do eat candy it can't be purple. Odd, yes...but I just won't eat purple candy. Which is made even odder by the fact that I like grape. I love watching the History channel. And I have a small phobia of smelling things from the fridge. Such as "Mom, will you smell this milk?" Uhm, NO.

Hi Leya,
I always read your blog through bloglines; I think your owls are wonderful!
This Christmas my work gave me an I-pod and I'm proud to say that I still have the earphones :)
Oh, and I have a new bike that I'm really happy about!

Just the nudge I need to say hello... Hello! I'm lottie and I live in london. I read your blog loads but quietly, never commenting, which is silly really as I'm in love with your owls and find your snippets of life so fascinating. I love green things, owls and the sea. I also have lots of lists and in front of me now is one saying 'find your french book'.
Posted by:lottie | January 17, 2007 at 05:49 AM

Hello! I've commented a few times on your blog and bought an obi & a hat from you. I love making lists, knitting socks, drinking tea, walking in the forest or on the beach & making up odd nicknames for my three cats (four-legged vandalists for example). I love dark chocolate with orange, have a new-years resolution to make soup from scratch every week & love the colour red...
p.s. digg the owlfactory!!

Hi, this is the second or third blog I'm delurking on. I too bought an obi from you. It's made of a simple black and white fabric, but is just gorgeous. I saw the Martha Stewart show featuring the owls and the creator's name was Julie something. The show gave the url to her web site but I can't remember it. I read your blog regularly, then my computer crashed so I didn't have internet access regularly. Now it's better and I'm back to visiting you here again.

Hi!
I emailed with you a few times last week -- I'm Jamie, and I live in Raleigh, NC. I also make things pretty frequently, so it's great to check out your site for inspiration. I love your shadowboxes!
I'm glad you've found something you like doing -- work and play. Keep it up!

Hi Leya,
I've been lurking since last May. I found your blog while googling for a costume to wear for a Motown-themed event. Apparently "costume" or "clothing" and "motown" led me to you and your cute tabby Motown. I'm so glad that I found your site, because your world is such a good-hearted, warm place to visit. I'm a fortyish intellectual property attorney (patents, copyrights, trademarks, etc.) in Huntsville, Alabama. I haven't sewn since Jr. High, but maybe you'll inspire me.
Congratulations on your recent engagement! Your guy sounds like a keeper!
Cheers,
Angie

hello... i have been reading your blog for a while - i am an owl fan too and your owl pillows are fab!! good luck with the earphones...
Posted by:dandelion | January 17, 2007 at 01:11 PM
hey there,
the de-lurking is a good thing... must come up with interesting things to reveal about myself :) i tend to have the opposite problem, letting everything out at once, and i do sometimes long for a bit more of an air of mystery, you know?
i heart those owls. i love the way the color choices gives each of them a different mood & expression.

Hi Leya...
I too have a "Delurking" post on P&C...
Hope you will come by and visit! I haven't featured so many craft projects, but I too make things at least once a week. You can see some of what I've done in my archive called "On the Make"...
Right now I'm making a quilt for my sister & brother-in-law. I'll post when it's done!
Love your site - it's beautiful and blissful.
I saw your owls originally on Stylehive.com...
X to the O!

Yay, de-lurking is good! Did some on my own blog as well. I don't remember how I found you, but I've been checking in a few times a week since last fall sometime -- it's such a relaxed, friendly place to visit. Thanks for sharing. Congrats on your engagment, too!

Hello hello and I know what you mean about feeling like a factory. I just wanted to tell you that I think your great, seriously! Oh and I have been meaning to ask you...are you still taking orders for those super cool hats? Cuz if you are I would Loooove to buy one.=)

Hello! I have been reading your posts for a while now and find so much inspiration from your work. I found your site through another weblog, Two Straight Lines. (She has a great list of blogs I like). Please feel free to visit my site at http://mollyjane.typepad.com to find out more about me. (I often wonder who's reading my posts too.)

Hi Leya,
My name is Gina Hicks, and I've been lurking for a few months. I can't remember how I first came upon your blog-- I think perhaps flickr. I live in Greensboro NC, and seem to remember your having some sort of NC connection-- Winston perhaps? I think also you might be friends with Kat Lamp who rocked out with my husband's band on occasion-- my son's very first art purchase was from Kat. Your blog is great, and your owls are fabulous. Thanks for giving me a wonderful opportunity to come out of lurkville.

Hey, I usually comment, but that's no reason not to say hi again! I like argyle or plaid over stripes or dots. I try to go thrifting once a week and every time I see a fun, vintage owl I think of you. I used to party in Philly during college (or so they tell me, i don't remember). I also make something every day, but since it's work it is not always something I want to make.

Those are stinkin cool!

Am I delurker #28? Wow, you're got quite a readership :)
Hi! I'm Sarah/Specs and I knit. Right now I'm a grad student living in the South, but I'll soon be moving back north to (just outside of) Philly. I've got a cat named Otto and a great boyfriend, and I've learned over the past few months that I am an East Coast girl through and through.
Oh, and I love your owls! I had some on my Christmas list of links that I sent to my parents and boyfriend, but alas, no owl turned up under the tree.
Posted by:Specs | January 17, 2007 at 07:14 PM
Delurking to say hi. I think I have commented before but I can't remember. I live in Canada and have a terrible cold and cough right now that makes it hard to type. Those owls are great!

Hi, Leya:
I've commented a couple times, but here's a proper delurkment. I got into blogs about 7 months ago, after moving from SF to Manchester and leaving pretty much all my cookbooks in SF. I don't know what food blog led me to yours, but I thought it was catchy and crafty enough to visit often. I especially love the vibrant photography and, of course, your lovely wares. If only I had asked my readers to delurk when my blog was still active...alas, I'll never know who that frequent reader in LA was!
P.S. I've only been to Las Vegas once, when I was ten and we stayed at...Circus, Circus! Very unmemorable.
Posted by:Janice | January 17, 2007 at 10:29 PM
I think I found you through links on several different crafty blogs. I live right outside of SF, love cupcakes, 50s housewives, gossip magazines, hair dye and crafting! I love reading your blog. :)
Posted by:Audrey | January 17, 2007 at 10:33 PM
I'm in love with old movies, vintage dresses, learning to sew stuffed toys, making my own clothes, lots of photography, polaroids, discovering great bands and having a wonderful time with my husband in our hometown in sunny England.
We're planning on doing a road trip of the States next year which will allow me to explore states which are not my beloved New York!
Love your blog!

I suppose I should introduce myself since you are one of the blogs I roam...I've been enjoying your creative flow for a while now. And allow me to say congratulations on your impending status of wifey!
We've been thinking of the same things at times -- like when you made choco-dipped pretzels, mine were cooling in my fridge! Fun to see the uncanny connections across blogland. Drop by anytime! (http://housewifery.blogspot.com/)

Hello! I read your blog often. I am not sure how I found it - maybe googling owls. I also thank you for linking me to other blogs I read daily. In return it made me want to create one myself. It's not much - but it's started!
Thanks,
Denise

Hi,
This delurking thing seems like a good idear, I've been reading a lot of blogs lately and am beginning to feel a little like a new kind of stalker...
I'm Esther, I live in Holland, in Europe not in Michigan, I really enjoy reading your blogs and getting some creative vibes instead of all the academic ones i am and should be getting. I love vintage, thrifting, making my own jewlery, drawing...all kinds of stuff... I should be making a blog too, but I am to busy with other things...
Ow, and this St. Klaas wich is like a Santa Klaus/ creative thing we have in the Netherlands the 5th of december I made a package inspired by your owl pillows... will try to paste picture here...
Anyway much tanks for the creative,- and lovelyness
Esther
ehhh... yeah, picture pasting won't work... If you'd like to see it I'll mail it over :)

i'm pretty sure i've commented before, but still saying 'hi' on this de-lurking occasion! i've always loved your owls. the assembly-line you have going on the floor there looks fantastic!
Posted by:molly | January 18, 2007 at 03:35 PM
I check in to your great blog occasionally - I think I found you through flickr. I'm a 41 year old (maybe one of your older lurkers??), divorced mom to two kids who loves to do craft type things with my free time. The internet has helped me think outside of my craft-box (which used to just include cross-stitch) and so I love blogs like yours to help my creativity. Thanks!

Not sure if I've commented before or not. Probably have. But in the spirit of delurking I'll assume that I haven't. Love your blog - always a pleasure to check in here!
