eight things.

Dsc_0080
I've been tagged. The name of the game is eight random things, so here it goes. (by the way, thanks for the tag, carey)

1. I'm the oldest child. No, I'm really old, like ten years older.
My little brother is twenty now, but I remember when he was seven and goofy and I was headed off to college to go to rock shows and dance parties and stay up really late while he was at home going to bed early in his ninja turtle pj's (boy, how the tables have turned).

2. My best girl friend's name is leah (long e). My name is leya (long a). Introductions are always fun.

3. I got my first and only traffic ticket when I was sixteen. I drove my car in to  a pharmacy.
It wasn't my fault. Seriously.  I swerved to miss an accident and somehow ran into a small pharmacy. No one was hurt, well, except for me, but it wasn't too bad.
I'm a good driver now, hence the first and only part.

4. My parent's always planted a garden while I was growing up. We had lots of squash, cucumbers and greens. I hope to have a big garden of my own some day.

5. I quit my job doing architecture five years ago. I'm very happy with the path I've taken since.

6. I've recently become addicted to Sudoku. It's a daily obsession. Dustin is my Sudoku mentor. I call him Sudokuji.

7. I have lots of twins in my family (maternal side). It has skipped every generation for the last four. And wouldn't you know, I'm part of the generation with the possibility.

8. Today, I listened to Townes Van Zandt and loved every minute of it.

If they're up for it...

how a pegboard transformed my life.

who knew something as simple as pegboard could be so wonderfully useful? I'm in the process of reorganizing my entire studio space, made possible by all the wonderful renegade and art star craft bazaar shoppers! thank you.

now I just need a vintage drafting stool to sit on...okay, it doesn't have to be vintage, but I thought I would be specific in case the thrifting gods happen to be  listening.

be well out there.

hello summer

Dsc_0009

Happy Summer to you. I'm thrilled about the sunshine and nice breeze blowing around Philadelphia today. It's a beautiful Friday indeed. In honor of summer and the solstice, and  the glorious fact I now have some time on my hands to goof around, I did some sunprints yesterday. I really love how they turned out -- such a simple and sweet project, and great for kids. I had a five year old helper who loved gathering "objects" for each print. Oh to be five again...

have a lovely weekend, friends

shiney happy shoes

Hello there,

I'm still here, just taking a little break to regroup from all the craft shows and get some MUCH needed wedding details worked out. Today was a big day for that -- the boy picked out his ring and reserved several of the items we need for our country wedding...cough porta-potty cough...it's quite fancy with running water, a light, AND a flushable toilet.
In other exciting news. I recently scored some new shoes while thrifting in South Philly. Metallic sandals have been on my mind and now I have some on my feet. The thrifting gods are so good to me.

More soon, friends

fun in the sun

We're back from a lovely weekend in Brooklyn. Renegade was excellent...and a wee bit exhausting. The heat was no joke and I've got a nice little sunburn to prove it. When will I learn to reapply sunscreen at regular intervals?
I'm short on time and energy tonight, but here are some highlights and photos that pretty much tell the story.

  • Selling my new Babybird creations to all sorts of sweetie pie kiddos. Dustin sold a wee giraffe tank top to a woman who was having trouble deciding simply by saying the words Chubby+Little+Arms.  He's funny like that.
  • Running into old friends and meeting up with my Brooklyn peeps as well as having a really good dinner with friends at Bonita, complete with a pitcher of white wine margaritas after a long days work on Saturday.
  • Sesame Letterpress grab-bags. It was a gamble, but for $5 dollars, I scored the mother load {coasters, cards, and tags).
  • Finally meeting Meg and Jen and seeing their creations. They're as sweet and talented as I imagined.

Wow, what a week it has been.  I think it might classify as the fastest ever. Seriously.
It's a busy time -- lots of list-making and Renegade preparations, and even a wee bit of freaking out going on.  I know this isn't an advice column, which is a really good thing considering, but if I may share a few bits for the sake of sharing.  It is never wise to try to accomplish too much. It's crazy making and I never seem to learn (after years of telling myself I will). Here's the real advice I have. Never, and I mean never do back-to-back craft fairs, prepare to teach classes at a four week summer camp, AND plan a wedding all at the same time! It is completely nuts. It's waaay too much and I'm insane for not realizing it sooner. What on earth was I thinking?  Not the wedding part. No, no, not that part, just the other stuff. The getting married and planning a wedding part is great...it's just the other stuff all mixed in and stacked on top.

Actually, the wedding planning is moving along at an even pace, at least I think it is. We have about a zillion lists and yesterday we sat down and put deadlines on various tasks, which was helpful but kind of anxiety provoking (that isn't apparent at all, is it?)  With any luck, the invitations will be finished up in a week or two and once that happens I will feel a lot better. At least for a little while.

Have a sweet weekend. I'll be back next week sometime.
