sluggish start.

Woke up super groggy this morning. My yoga practice was harder than its been in a while -- even simple stretching was a challenge. I think I dreamed that I slept in this bed,  (found via Design Sponge) which is most likely why it was so difficult to get going.

On a totally different subject, I'm considering purchasing a juicer. Do any of you have one? If so, how do you like it? Any brand recommendations? Oh, and a big consideration for me is whether or not I will have to use tons of veggies/fruit to get a decent amount of juice. I don't want to carry a fifty pound bag of carrots home from Whole Foods every time I want to make juice. I do love the idea of fresh apple, carrot, ginger, though. Or beet, celery, cucumber, parsley, lemon....yum.  Think of all the possibilities.  I would love any advice you might have.

Take it easy,
L.

I have a post on my blog about a different kind of juicing here. More soluble fiber, less wasteful, if it suits what you're after.

Cute duck planter. I like.

I have a Juicerman brand juicer and it works pretty well. You do end up going through quit a bit of fruit and veggies for a small amount of juice, though. And contrary to what the book tells you, making your own V8 juice does not taste the same as the kind you buy in stores! :)

Hey Sweetpea, I have a Champion and love it. Especially this time of year when I need a cleanse but don't want to give up eating satifiying and warming foods. I found mine on Ebay. It's awesome, kind of an older model with a motor like a small Honda in there. A little bit of veggies goes a long way; a little bit of juice is really all you need at a time, it's super compact of vitamins and minerals. I juice two carrots, an apple, a celery, a nub of ginger, sometimes a smidge of beet and that feeds hooks all three of us up. Also, be careful about your beet juice intake. It can be taxing on your kidneys! ps thanks for the congrats! xo K

i adore my juicer. i got

http://www.amazon.com/Waring-JEX328-Health-Juice-Extractor/dp/B000050FB5/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1206472182&sr=8-4

and it was a steal. i use beets a a lot to make apple, lemon, ginger beet juice and its amazing. it tastes like apple cider. they seem to carry the most juice.

also i have been making things like:

2 jalapeño
4 large vine ripe tomatoes
handful of garlic
handful of basil (balled up for easier juicing)

juice it

then add it to the stove top along with a 8oz can of tomato paste and fresh herbs. let sit on medium for about 45 min.

soooooo yummy.

but yes, be warned not so much juice comes out of each piece you put in. but you can use the extra waste for gardening or stews.

good luck!

i just bought (and later returned because my homeopathic doctor was not into me drinking juice) the breville juice fountain. a friend has it and loves it. she puts whole apples, beets, collard greens, etc. right in - it knows just what to grind up and spit out. easy to clean. she loves it. i wanted to love it too. alas.

good luck, leya!

So funny that you mentioned you were sluggish and then that you were thinking of getting a juicer! Juicing is great and fresh juice is a wonderful pick-me-up. We have a Juiceman juicer (2nd hand) and it seems to work fine. I love carrots, apples, pears, beets, citrus fruits, cucumber, and loads of ginger (um, not all together though).

We don't use our juicer all that often but every time we do I remember how cool and fun it is. I don't know if you have a KitchenAid mixer but you can also get a juicing attachment for that which would minimize the number of appliances in your kitchen.

say no to the juicer! its way healthier to get a really nice blender and use frozen fruits... juicers are nice, but you lose all the fiber that the skins of fruits hold and a lot of the nutrients in there too. the vitamins are exactly the same, but you'll feel like you have more of a meal if you down a shake every morning... there are some great breakfast recipes for smoothies that will keep you filled til' lunch... that way you aren't just downing calories without filling you up!

love your eggs, your raccoons and of course -the duck planter - have I seen that one before? darn cute, lady.

check this blog; she has wonderful recommendations on a variety of things. :)
