there's a first time for everything

After a few days of hunched shoulders (binding can be a little tedious), I finally completed my first quilt. It's really special for several reasons, primarily because it's created from fabric left over from our big day back in September.

As with any first time project, there was a learning curve and some uncertainty at times. This book and this tutorial were both very helpful when it came time to do the binding. There is definitely a bit of wonkiness here and there, but I actually really love those parts.  The best part though is completing a project I've been thinking about since last Fall -- that and knowing we now have a comfy quilt that will always remind us of our wedding day.

Hi Leyla! I love to read your blog from time to time. Your work is very beautiful and inspiring. I love the quilt you completed. Lovely fabrics.

Sorry I spelled your name wrong. My fingers have the tendency to add extra letters.

Leya - it is gorgeous! You did a great job.

Oh Leya....it's absolutely devine!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!! xo

whoo hoo!
congratulations leya!
it's gorgeous and so awesome! you are my crafting idol lady... it's true.

Beautiful Leya! I can appreciate how difficult this was too. wow!

What a beautiful quilt. You did a great job.

Such a great quilt, I really love the unexpected quality of the green grid. It's a nice combination of funky vintage fabric with a clean design, and it has polka-dots. I rest my case.

gurl...that quilt is awesome! I knew you'd make a quilt one day and not surprised a bit it turned out so well...I agree the green grid is what makes it.

Just lovely. What a beautiful keepsake:) I'm so impressed!

Not only is it your first quilt, but with some sentimental goodness?! Gorgeous!

Um...this is Awesomeness! Congrats on a great project.

The green is perfect.

I really like it a lot. Quilts can quickly become old fashioned looking but you choose such great fabrics.

I love the colors in this quilt, great work. I also loved your elephant and giraffe quilts, very inspiring.....Cheers!

So, I just realized the elephant and giraffe quilts were made from Houseonhillroad.typepad.com...gave myself a good giggle with my mistake.
Cheers again and forgive my blunder, still giggling!

leya, this is beautiful! and so nice that it uses fabrics with such special memories for you two... it will make cuddling under it all the more wonderful :) xo

It's really lovely- that brown polka dot print is fantastic. Where did it come from? It's probably not around anymore but just in case...

*Love* the color combo! Great job!

Lovely, great job!

I'm totally stunned. I mean, I love quilts, but I really had no idea one could be so beautiful and so cool at the same time. What an amazing layout and combination of fabrics. Nicely done, Leya!

LAYA YOUR ON CRAFTZINE.COM! I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD HAPPEN FOR YOU! YAAAAAAAAY!!!

SO gorgeous! I'm still dreaming of my first quilt. I bought some muslin to make my first cheater-type quilt (from Amy Butler's Stitches) this week but the one you just cranked out ~ wow. What an accomplishment!
