get a move on

This weekend is dedicated to moving every single belonging we own, along with two slightly anxious cats.
Lets hope it stops raining very soon. 

I'm sure I'll have a story or two to share after it's all over.

taking notice

it happened. I never know from year to year when it's going to happen but today was the day. while riding my bike to meet up with one of my favorite ladies, I smelled fall in the air. it was most definitely the smell of fall. that crispness was there, and with it came my usual excitement about the approaching possibility of  wearing an extra layer in the evenings. it made me grin as I rode. what a pleasant surprise it was. it always is.

out with the old

I love letters and packages. Well, I suppose I should clarify by saying I love sending letters and packages -- getting them is great too, don't get me wrong. And one good thing about moving is a new address, and that means new return address labels. I know, I have more pressing things to be thinking about right now, but I can't help scheming about these customized rubber stamps by Paperwink. Pretty snazzy and so many to choose from. 

reconnecting with an old friend

It's final. I have fallen head over heels for my old nikon slr. The same nikon I carried with me everywhere during high school. How could I pack it away like that? Seems so strange now. Either way, it was packed away for too long and I'm so glad I picked it up again. So glad.

pardon me as I distract myself from getting things done.

I'm really into purchasing some matchstick blinds for our new bedroom. The light in there is really bright  so they could be a great and affordable option for toning it down just a bit.  I love how they filter the light just so. Very pretty.

feeling a bit of withdrawal from summer camp today. thought I'd share some more photos.

back to packing...almost done except for the kitchen and the random bits that I'm not sure what to do with. the cats are getting nervous living in the land of cardboard -- they will love the new place with all of its wide window sills to sit upon, though.

 only a few more days until liftoff.

more summer photos to share.

I chose to show you these two because I'm pretty sure they had something to do with my mood changing from completely anxious and overwhelmed to relaxed and optimistic.  Sounds silly, I know, but as I looked through more summer photos yesterday afternoon, I was reminded of how I felt the evening I snapped these two shots. It was one of those beautiful evenings that make summer so wonderful --not too buggy, a crispness in the country air, and that beautiful evening light falling all around.  and to top it off, I was in the company of people I love, each of us working together to create a summer camp for over 300 young people. I realized that if I can be a part of something huge and crazy (and it often feels crazy) and still see it as relaxing and fun, then I can certainly pack up my belongings and move fifteen blocks away! 

all I needed was a little perspective. (and more packing tape).

this is what it looked like...

when I looked through my camera this summer. and this is only the beginning. I have lots more photos to share.  lots.

but first I have to get my head clear from all the craziness that is my life currently. Dustin and I are moving to a new place in just over two weeks (nothing packed) and there is a pile of laundry the size of a small car staring at me. all I can do at the moment is pace back and forth and take naps...I'm hoping to find a little energy for it all sometime soon. I will go ahead and admit that I/we are crazy for thinking it would be acceptable to move right after camp and right before school starts. good grief.

enough about my troubles...

my summer was wonderful and challenging -- the perfect mix of getting things done and loving exactly was I was doing no matter how tough it was. and just so you know, there were definitely some tough moments -- some homesick kiddos, lots of rainy days, two cases of the shingles, and one broken elbow, just to name a few.  it was still a terrific time, probably one of the best camps to date.

winding down

Four days to go...although in camp time that equals about two weeks.

I'm so looking forward to sharing photos and stories with you.  I've had a lovely break from the computer, but certainly missed this space and saying hello. I will pop in again soon. Until then, have lots of fun.
