Hey!

Hope you had a lovely holiday weekend. We certainly did. Lots of picnics and good times.
We even managed to visit a playgound we've been meaning to check out. The whole place was great, but the big wooden slide was the best part! Definitely going back again sometime soon.

I haven't shared a video in a long time. Here's one shot yesterday when D took Felix to the park for some fun in the sprinkler. We have been melting here in Philly. Ugh.
Felix is certainly a grabby little guy lately. Lucky for him his friend Lu is pretty understanding.

things I like: labeling various plants in my garden

For fun I've been labeling different plants in my garden using some sweet wood stakes I found on sale at Terrain.  Sure, I already know what everything growing out there is, but I like the look of the stakes and labeling stuff brings me joy, so what the heck.
By the way, the stakes would be easy to make for those of you with access to wood and tools. Just sayin'...

Howdy,

The days are getting away from me lately. I've been slacking on saying hello since last Monday. Sorry 'bout that. If you want to know the truth, summer school started last week and the pace of all the reading and assignments is making me a little nutso. I'm doing what I can and trying to keep my eye on the prize....only 17 more classes and I'm completely DONE.

Also, these rainy days we've had here in Philly are great for my little garden (amazing, actually), but not so good for my overall mood -- you'd think that living in Portland, Oregon for a while would make me pretty skilled at dealing with rainy weather. Not the case. But...enough prattling on. In the grand scheme of things everything is just fine -- a little on the busy side for our family, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Onward and upward!

Now for a few things I'm currently digging.

My friend Stephanie emailed me the other day with a very sweet SURPRISE. She is gifting her winnings to Felix for his 1st birthday present! Can't wait to see his chunky little feet in some moccs!

Spring cleaning is in full force here. We had a yard sale last weekend and my rule was everything that went out the door was not allowed back in. Stuff that didn't sell was stuffed into our station wagon and gladly donated. It feels so dang good to simplify. I think I am a little addicted to it at the moment. Still more to come as our move down South quickly approaches.

Just for fun, I'm also digging:

Sleeping with the windows open. So comfy.
Curried Egg Salad -- the recipe is still the same as any egg salad, only you add 1 teaspoon of curry powder.
My new gold saltwater sandals.
Watermelon (Felix is a fan too!)

We're back from the beach. Felix approved, well, mostly. He didn't love it when wet sand stuck to his hands, but that's pretty understandable. I'm not a fan of that either. We had a great time introducing him to the sea.

Happy Happy

We're quickly approacing the year mark over here. 11 months and counting! Craaazy. As you can probably tell with all my Felixcentric posts, we continue to fall deeper and deeper in love with our boy and are endlessly entertained by him. He's a super snuggly, sweet little guy. With every passing day he's becoming more and more of his own little person. Definitely a bit willful these days, which you may be able to pick up on in that top photo -- he wasn't so psyched about holding the sign, and he wasn't afraid to give me a piece of his mind.

Some of the highlights from the last month include:

He is now a speed crawler. Like, I turn my head for two seconds and he's across the room speedy. I gotta keep my eyes on him at all times or he'll do silly stuff like try to stick his face in Mort's food bowl or lick the mailslot in the front door! Crazy kid.

Definitley saying mama, dada, baba, and niiine. Not sure what the heck "niiine" is, but it works for lots of things, mostly requesting the food I'm eating.

He's pulling up on random things as often as he can. This activity has resulted in a couple of dings lately. Man, I hate those dings. I suppose they come with the territory, but still.

Oh, and our boy is quite the clapper. During swim lessons, he wins the award for "most supportive swimmer" due to all the clapping he does for his fellow kippers in the class. Whenever he hears "Yay!", he drops everything and gives a big round of applause. It's a total heart exploder.

Happy 11 month birthday, Felix Augustus!

daily ritual: essential oil spritz

a few drops of my favorite essential oil (rose, ylang ylang, neroli, clary sage) added to distilled water and I'm set for at least a week or two. I spritz daily, sometimes multiple times, but always as part of my morning freshening up routine, and always with lavender before bed.
