Hello and Happy December!
Hope your Thanksgiving was lovely. It was just the four of us this year, so we wanted to keep everything as mellow as possible. We didn't even make the usual fare but chose to skip the turkey and just prepare some of our favorite things (and purchase the rest). It worked out so well we may just do it again next time!
Lemon ricotta pancakes for breakfast. Fancy snacks for lunch. Think olives, cheese, smoked salmon dip and so much more. And we made a big pot of bouillabaisse for dinner. All of it was delish and EASY, exactly what we were going for. Of course I couldn't resist making a couple of pies. Heck, going without a turkey and the rest is fine, but going without pie on Thanksgiving is crazy, am I right?
It was so nice to spend the long weekend with my little gang. We danced in the living room and watched a few movies (please put the film Frances Ha on your must see list - we, as in D and I, loved it). We did some crafts and played at the park. And we made the trek out to our favorite Christmas tree farm. Same as last year. I'm cracking up typing this, but you should know that our Christmas tree farm has fresh donuts, hot chocolate, hayrides, AND A BOUNCY CASTLE! It's a big hit with Felix. Especially right after eating a bunch of donuts. Sugar rush supreme.
We did a hayride and explored a little before finding our lovely tree. We watched the kind tree farm people shake it with their wacky tree-shaking machine (personally, I really love that part) and wrap it and tie it tightly atop our trusty old subaru. After some serious decorating madness that involved music and dancing and, uh, more pie, our beautiful tree now sits in our living room sparkling and smelling like a dream. And Felix hasn't quit talking about the donuts and the bouncy castle and the whole adventure. I love hearing him recount things. He gets so excited.
Also, I mentioned it on Instagram, but I will say it here too. This Chrismas decorating business really brings out the dork in me. By that I simply mean, I have been getting all hand-wringy and excited. Every step of the way. Aside from getting the tree, it is so fun fetching all the decorations and looking at them with the boys. The sparkle of the tree and the mantle and their little faces makes my heart double in size. Good stuff indeed.
Once again, Happy December, friends.
I hope you have a little sparkle happening wherever you happen to be.
