Being a big brother can be challenging, especially when you're two and the news is flung at you in the early morning hours just as you awake ready for another day of only child business as usual. Sure, we read a ton of books about being a big brother and welcoming a new baby into our family. Felix has talked about "his baby" (and sometimes what he said was actually a badger in my belly) a lot these past few months, but talk is just that, actually being a big brother and having a new baby arrive on the scene is a whole different can of worms.
Overall, Felix has done a bang-up job his first week of big brotherdom. Of course there have been issues. We lost a library book to an unprecendented urge to rip paper, and we've seen our fair share of tears and heard several requests that we "put the baby down over there." Luckily, for my sanity and overall mood, there have also been equal amounts of sweet snuggles and inquiries of "where'd my baby go?" (hearing him say that makes my heart sing every time).
We're taking it slow and easy here. Trying to do our usual stuff during the day (stick collecting, pretend play, rowdy jumping on the sofa cushions...) and mix it up with new, exciting things as well, like the introduction of the donut. It made for one very happy little guy. And I figure every big brother deserves a delicious cherry vanilla donut from the farmer's market when a new baby arrives, don't you?
Have a wonderful weekend out there.
xo,
L.
