Felix is 8 months old today. Just like all the other passing months, we can hardly believe he is growing so fast right before our eyes. Our little baby is no longer that little (23lbs. 11 oz.) -- he is becoming more of an independent boy every day. We struck gold with this kid.  And Dustin said the sweetest thing the other day as we were trying to find the right words to explain how Felix has changed recently. He said, "I think he is starting to love us back". Isn't that sweet? It's so true...he is starting to behave in a way that says I love you guys and I think I will keep you! Of course we LOVE this new developement to pieces. My knees almost buckle on a daily basis when I look at him and he looks back at me in a way that communicates affection and sweetness for his mama. Oh man, it's the greatest thing ever. I can hardy come up with complete sentences just thinking about it. Once again, we struck gold with this amazing 8 month old boy.

Here are some highlights from the last month:

Two new teeth have emerged in the front. Big ones...just like his mama!
He's doing a little bit of army crawling. Just a little. We NEED to babyproof pronto.
Good times (messy times) with solid food and drinking from a cup.
He has a new appreciation for books. The page-eating is starting to decrease.

Happy Happy Half Birthday

6 months ago today we met our sweet baby boy for the very first time. That day was pure magic -- we're still floating around remembering the moment we saw his face and heard his little voice the first time. Unforgettable. He has gifted us with more joy and beauty than we could have ever imagined, and our love for him grows each day. We feel so lucky to get to know and love him...and kiss those chunky cheeks..and arms...and thighs. 

The last six months have brought countless fantastic moments. Highlights from the last month include: a new tooth, lots of rolling over, a pretty good ability to sit up unassisted, giggles and squeals, some serious babbling, a love of soft books (and paper!), the ability to track Mortimer's every move, and some messy moments learning to eat solid food (still a long way to go in this department).

Today we are the proud parents of a 5 month old boy!

And people aren't joking when they say things like, "it goes by so fast" or "before you know it he'll be running around". It's true, before we know it he will be running around! Our little bug has changed so much and continues to change with every passing week.  Remember this? I know all we can do is try to stay as present as possible and take it all in, though if anyone has discovered a way to press pause on this whole life-changing adventure please do share.

Okay, now I have to admit something semi-embarrassing. Am I the only mama who watches videos or looks at photos of her baby after he has gone to sleep at night? I don't know how it happens, it's not like I don't have a kizillion things to do. I suppose I start missing him and before I know it I'm clicking around my computer looking at his sweet face. Dustin makes loads of fun of me even though he joins in most nights! I can't be the only one doing this, can I?  

Some of the highlights from his 5th month include:

He has his first tooth! It isn't completely in and he's not eating corn on the cob or apples just yet, but it is definitely there in all its sharp glory (ouch!)
This is just the beginning -- there is more tooth spoutin' business in the works.

The giggles are happening in full force now. He might not be such a serious boy after all.

Sitting up is not too far off. He's not there just yet, but he's very close.

Lots of good sleeping going on here (did I just jinx us by typing that?). He doesn't sleep through the night every night, but he comes pretty dang close. For now anyway...

At his last appointment he weighed 20 lbs. 10 oz. and was 26 1/2" long. No joke.

Happy Halloween!

And just like that, our Junebug turns 4 months old. A third of a year! Geesh!
Our boy is growing so fast I can hardly stand it. I am doing all I can to dig in my heels and remember everything about these first months. If only I could bottle the smell of his super kissable tummy... I would totally do it and store a case of the stuff in my basement! 

Not to sound too sappy, but it really does seem like yesterday that I saw his sweet little face (and all that crazy hair) for the very first time. And heard, "it's a boy!" And you want to know something funny? Dustin and I recap that beautiful June day all the time. I say, "tell me what we did all day as I labored at home?", or "remember when we were stuck in traffic with me in the backseat writhing around?", or, "tell me again how you told people when you called them to announce that we had a little boy". We have a lot of fun remembering, and I'm assuming we are not the only parents who love to talk about that unforgettable day.

Some of the highlights from his 4th month include:

Tons of toothless smiles... and some giggles, although he makes us work for them. I think we may have a bit of a serious boy on our hands.

Felix has began to notice Mortimer and be somewhat interested in him. And, Mort is still trying to forgive us for bringing home another creature (who can be very loud) that takes most of our attention.

Felix made the big move from the co-sleeper in our room to his crib in his very own room. I don't want to jinx anything, but he's is a pretty good sleeper -- he wakes up once during the night, and so far his new sleeping arrangement hasn't disrupted anything. 

He hasn't rolled over yet, but the boy is doing some serious pilates to make it happen. He does crunches on the changing table, on his playmat, and sooner or later, he is going to crunch his way from his back to his tummy (and develop a six-pack in the process!!)

We can't believe it -- our boy is 3 months old today. That's one quarter of a year! Sllllooooow down, little bug, you're growing too darn fast.

It has been a ton of fun around here lately. Just like everyone keeps telling us, it continues to be more and more fun. Honestly, this boy of ours is so much fun we can hardly stand it sometimes.

Some highlights from his 3rd month include:

Lots of cooing and "talking", especially when he's on the changing table. Go figure. Does this mean when he's an adult he's going to be chatty in public bathrooms?!

Our boy has some strong legs. He can support all of his weight (and he has a lot to support) while standing.

He now faces forward while out and about in the Baby Bjorn carrier. He gets lots of attention from the people he sees, mostly about the chunkiness of his thighs! However, it should be noted that he still loves the Moby Wrap for snoozing and taking it easy. He's in it as I type this, actually.

And recently he has started grabbing and holding onto his toys. Sure, he misses sometimes, but when he connects, he really connects... and he always has to take a taste. The drool is out of control around here.

Daddy daycare started this past week and my two guys are doing great together. The bottle is being taken without protest (big surprise due to past bottle fiascoes) and a good routine is being established. I love getting the play-by-play when I get home the few days I'm away.

Can you believe September is right around the corner? Time flies...

Our boy, Felix Augustus, turns two months old today. Two. Whole. Months. We have loved every minute of these last eight weeks, even the challenging ones...and there have been a few of those.

Some highlights from his second month include:

He has given us several heart-melting smiles. Hot damn, I love it when he shows me that toothless grin. I am going to be such a sucker for that smile, I just know it.

The cooing is in full force now. Lots of grunting and cooing and chatting with us AND various random objects. As far as I can tell, he finds the ceiling fan to be a pretty good conversationalist.

He has also started being a little more mellow when he's not being, uh, held. On a couple of occasions I have found time to run to the laundry room and actually start a load of laundry (soap and everything) while he sits in his little bouncing seat taking everything in.

Thumb-sucking is a new favorite of his. Before a couple of days ago, he couldn't connect, but now he's becoming quite a pro. I think he may be starting the early stages of teething, too. Ouch.

And, he's getting big. He is off the curve on the growth chart! No, I'm serious, we've got ourselves a big, amazing boy. And, once again, we feel so darn lucky.
