Bluemushroomlinen
Hello friends,
Something strange is going on...I stumbled upon this vintage linen (with matching magnetic pot holder. yes, magnetic.) last week. Does it look familiar?  Remember this?  I suppose I have a thing for mushroom linens now...it's the beginning of a small collection anyway.

I hope your weekend was fun. We had a great night out on Friday. Our friends had us over for dinner and it was delicious. I'm talking chai cheesecake delicious.

Off to begin another busy week. I'm hoping to get some actual crafting done. It's been slow goin' since I finished the Imago Series. However, I was looking at Japanese craft books last night, which means I'm starting to get energized again.

Have a great Monday out there,
l.

**oh, and thanks for all the sweet comments about our engagement announcement. we're really happy that project is out the door. it was fun, but I have a feeling our actual wedding invitations are going to be very simple. anyway, thanks again!**

a few of my favorite things

Fenton_canisters_1
There are many things I remember about my sweet Grandma Carrie: she always had vanilla ice cream in the freezer; she wore a velvety red shower cap sorta thing to keep her bouffant nice and neat while she snoozed; she sang while doing the dishes;  AND she had the greatest LE Fenton canisters in her kitchen. She purchased them in the forties and used them for over 50 years.  She passed away when I was 19 and since then I have had a plan of eventually having canisters just like hers. That day has come thanks to a little late night Ebaying. Now maybe I should do a search for a red velvet sleeping cap. Never mind I said that.

Check out this tree fabric I picked up the other day. I can't seem to decide if it's vintage (my guess is no) but it sure is snazzy.

While watching the latest Six Feet Under dvd last night,  I managed to cut out a tree full of baby owls, as well as a skirt, and several zipper pouches. I told you I felt the urge to sew coming back in a big way. Hopefully I can get to it.

Here are a few links for your perusal. I wonder what Mortimer would do if I had this shipped on over? You've probably already heard about this great site, but I can barely hold myself back even though I'm well aware my notecard addiction is starting to become an issue.
Hdargar
If you haven't yet seen The Realms of the Unreal. I think you would enjoy it. I saw it several months ago and can't seem to get it out of my head. That Henry Darger was something pretty amazing.

I think a little blogging break is due. I'll be back after the weekend. Take care.

:orange: day 5 of a week of color

Orange2
Throughout my childhood, my grandmother always had an orange and yellow kitchen. I loved helping her cook  in that colorful, cheery space. There's even a story about me as a toddler pulling all the plates out of the cabinet while trying to "help". When I was about ten, I remember chatting with my grandma about her choice of kitchen colors and her admitting that she was mostly smitten with the orange aspects of her kitchen; the yellow was thrown in as an afterthought. Nowadays her kitchen is rooster themed. I miss the orange and yellow quite a bit.

Apron_laura
Recently I did a trade with my friend Laura. I made her an apron for one of her fantastic drawings. I really like how it turned out -- the vintage apple fabric is some of my favorite. I think Laura will look great in apples.

three gals + current obsessions

Ladies
the photo above shows off my new ladies. they were discovered last weekend and were made by someone named PH in '78. now they sit looking beautiful on my living room bookshelf. I'm scared now that I have three (I couldn't handle the thought of separating them) because isn't three of something a really good start to a collection? I think I will be in hot water if I start a kitschy bust collection now due to the fact that my clock and vintage animal planter collections are already out of control. there's probably no real worry to be had because how often do these come around anyway? yikes.

as promised a while back, I finally made some new mod lion bags (in brown). a few  couple of these are newly available in the plumage section .  and not only is the vintage lion fabric really sweet, but these bags are lined with a vintage chocolate brown polka dot fabric. just lovely.

a few days ago, I posted a little photo collage of mortimer and his new kitty crack toy. here's an update.

and now I leave you with some of my current obsessions. have yourself a sweet weekend.
