This kid of mine is up for anything. It always makes my mama heart swell as I watch him be so open and curious as he moves through this world. And I've said it before, but four is such a stellar age.

I really like four. So far, I think it's my favorite age. Four, from my anecdotal evidence anyway, is goofy and serious and rascally and snuggly and waaaaay less challenging than three. I love his observations and his stories about time spent with friends ("Today Ian and I traded names but I wanted mine back because I like having an X." "Isabel looked lonely so I made her a roly poly out of black pipecleaners." "Elliot swings really high and we call it rockin' the bomb.") My sweet four year old will be four and a half in a couple of weeks and he wouldn't think of letting me forget that. But, yeah, four is really great. I am a big fan.
Romy and I attended a performance of Jack and the Bean Tree (Yes, Tree) at Felix's preschool. Romy stayed close to me, but enjoyed the performance so much.
Autumn has the best light. Hands down.
I voted. He stickered.
Such a mess-maker. And a pantless one at that!

We celebrated our favorite guy's birthday yesterday. We had a wee little and very delicious cake with the boys and then a real date night out just the two of us. Our sitter took the bottom photo. Can you tell how excited we are to be on our way to a nice restaurant together?

This photo was taken almost two years ago on a lovely evening when Felix was a few months past his second birthday and Roman was a wee newborn. I remember snapping it - and a bunch more - and thinking how much I was enjoying the evening and my little family. I was also likely overwhelmed and tired, but I'm fairly sure I was able to pack all that away and enjoy the beautiful evening. The magic hour light was just too good. I wanted it to last forever but I knew that wasn't possible. I love capturing bits from my days and then looking back on them. Remembering them. Shaking my head a little at how quickly time can accelerate.
I suppose that's why every time the lovely women over at Habit invite me to join in I always jump at the chance. I also like having a project and a reason to carry my camera around more. Habit helps me see my days a little differently. I enjoy that. So, yeah, you can find me over there for all of August and September. I'm bringing along a friend, too. Having loved Brooke's photos and words for years now, I'm thrilled she has agreed to join me. Hope you'll take a peek.

Phew! That was a loooong blog break. Maybe not the longest I've ever taken but certainly long enough. Sometimes life gets completely in the way of my popping in to say hello. Don't worry, it's not you, it's me.
Quite honestly, I have been up to my eyeballs studying for a really big clinical exam (as if my life wasn't already busy enough). Anyway, I spent four grueling hours taking my exam yesterday afternoon and I'm super happy to report that I PASSED! It's a damn good thing -- I never want to study that material again. Can you tell I really disliked squeezing in studying during the little time to myself that I have (boo hoo, I know). After getting my score, I drove home with a big grin on my face and a bag of my favorite Easter candy by my side. Then there was dinner and celebratory beers! Sleep....deep, glorious sleep came next. My brain hurt. It still kind of does.
So, yeah, now that the exam is behind me, I can get back to saying hello and sharing some of our adventures.
