Two years ago today...

we welcomed our beautiful baby boy to the world. This photo was taken a few hours after he was born and just as his big brother was first laying eyes on him. I love how our whole gang piled into the bed together to snuggle each other.  We still do that. 

Can't believe it has already been two years since he arrived. He is such a joy and has added so much love and spunk to our family. Getting to be his mama is such a gift. 

I love how he counts REALLY LOUD and usually follows up all his counting by saying, "Blast off!".

I love how he looks at his big brother and how he yells his name when he can't locate him.

I love watching him climb and run and explore. 

I love it when he looks around the room only using his eyes, usually with a giant smile on his face.

I love how he says, "Daddy home?" pretty much every time he comes in the house.

 I love the special thing he says to me every night as I put him to bed.

I love his little sing song voice so much it hurts. 

 

Happy 2nd Birthday, Romy!

:a bottle of magic:

We go through phases. Sometimes we play more games or do dramatic play, but lately we've been doing lots more craft projects. And guess who's starting to fully participate? Roman, that's who. It's the cutest thing to see him blossom from a delightful little baby into a delightful little boy, and a crafty little guy at that. He really loved filling a seltzer bottle with "bits" (he repeated that word the entire time) and glitter. It was just as fun for Felix as well. And Felix liked using the finished product as a "calm down bottle". Sometimes we can use a little help when it comes to mellowing out. ;-)

If you have little ones who are new to crafting (R is 19 months old), I highly recommend giving this project a try. 

Supplies needed:

Plastic bottle (the smaller the better)
Various items to go inside -- we used cut up pieces of foam sheets, goggly eyes, plastic spider rings, sequins, cut up pipe cleaners, cut up straws. 
Glitter
Water

:sensory fun for our favorite toddler:

Romy is definitely a toddler now. And boy does he enjoy a good sensory activity -- the unstructured version is probably better known as "making a mess". After a giant mess was made with a bag of oats he snuck out of the refrigerator the other day, I concluded that I had better fetch the long tub stored down in the basement and fill it with something. And quick!  Today I chose a bag of puffballs (starting out slow and easy) and he was pleased as punch. So fun to see him beginning to find activities that hold his attention for longer than a few minutes. Fun for him and very fun for me. Phew.

:for the love of climbing:

No need to go anywhere or do anything special. An empty wagon on the front porch will do just fine. This baby boy of mine is gaga for climbing. So funny how different kids can be. When Felix was 14 months old he wasn't even walking yet. Romy is running and climbing pretty much ALL DAY LONG.

:Happy Halloween:

We carved pumpkins last night. A pirate pumpkin and a "regular one with a regular mouth". Strict orders from the three year old. 

Felix really go into the carving (he supervised) and the scooping. Romy, on the other hand, decided he would rather eat a little dirt. Different strokes.

It's about time to have an early dinner, followed by getting the costumes on. I'll share some photos soon.

:celebrating in the sun and sand:

We spent the last several days celebrating Roman's first birthday on the North Carolina coast. Dustin's parents flew in to spend the days with us. It was a treat. We soaked up the sun (the September weather was perfect), ate like kings, and discovered what an excellent playground the sandy beach can be for little ones. Roman loved running on the shore (oh, those little footprints!) and Felix was right at home digging and collecting and playing in the waves. My baby boys are growing up. {Gulp!}

With everything going on in the world right now (and always), I am so grateful to have the opportunity to take such a wonderful trip with my amazing family. Being together is what it's all about. That, and loving one another.

:our baby boy is one:

Our sweet baby boy turns one today! ONE.

Just like that and we've already traveled 365 days from the day we met and held him close for the first time. I will never ever forget the first moment I saw him and heard him cry out. It was truly one of the most joyful moments of my life. 

This boy of ours is so brave and curious. He walks and claps and smiles the sweetest, toothy smile. He loves his big brother, watching his every move and yearning for as much of his attention as he can get. He wants to be as close as possible to his mama most days but screams "Daaaad-Deee!" upon seeing his dad come through the door. 

We are so grateful we get to know you, Roman Elias, and we cannot wait to see who you become.
